Engineering bespoke thermal solutions

Genlab, a Halton-based company that has been producing industrial ovens and incubators in Widnes since 1963, is celebrating achieving its largest level of sales orders ever obtained in a single month. The firm credits online marketing support accessed through Halton Growth Hub as having been a major factor in its ongoing success.

According to Phil Crompton, the company’s finance director, Genlab more than doubled its average monthly sales order during March, despite initial fears about Brexit and the triggering of Article 50. Sales included a bulk order from the University of Oxford for a new energy-efficient drying cabinet, six large bespoke units for use in the UK aerospace industry and increased sales abroad of the company’s standard range of products as a result of the reduced value of the pound.

Crompton explained that the help received through Halton Local Growth Hub over the last two years has been significant. “The Local Growth Hub has helped us access fully-funded, consultancy support, helping Genlab to improve its online marketing,” he said. “Additional ICT support has also given us the confidence to purchase some of the most cutting edge CAD design software available.”

Looking forwards, Crompton said: “Halton is changing rapidly and, in the future, we may well be looking at alternative business locations within the Borough. Knowing that the Growth Hub Halton will be there to help us and ensure we receive the best of the support available to assist and guide us through this challenge is invaluable.”

Having contacted Halton Growth Hub, Genlab was assigned a broker to help find the firm the support it required. Broker Rachael Owen expressed her satisfaction in being able to help even long established companies make record sales. “Working with organisations, like Genlab, is a real pleasure as they are always open to new initiatives and keen to access the breadth of resources and expertise available,” Owen said. “They deserve every success and I’m really looking forward to supporting the next phase of their growth plan.”

Genlab was founded in 1963. It currently sells its products to some of the most advanced industries in the world, including both aerospace and Formula 1. To find out more about Genlab, you can visit its website or call 0151 424 5001.
