Films that make people stop, think and act

Mocha is a film and animation studio. Its aim is to create emotionally engaging films that help create change; films that make people stop, think and act. Set up in 2001, it is based in the Baltic Triangle’s Elevator Studios and employs eight people.

Co-founder and director Phil Halpin explains that, prior to accessing support through the Local Growth Hub, the firm was struggling with a lack of strategic vision. There was a lack of understanding about the its strengths and how they could be translated into a brand and long-term approach.

Phil heard about Form through word of mouth and, after making contact, Mocha was able to access support from the agency through the Local Growth Hub and the ERDF funded New Markets 2 programme. He calls the support provided “invaluable” and says, “Their involvement is helping us thrive and take the business where we want it to be.”

“We have been on a journey with Form which started with their ‘Changing Gears’ programme,” he explains. “This helped us to identify our strengths and develop a strategy. I then attended the Invent Programme. This experience opened my eyes to what was possible. Following Invent we engaged with Form to do a vision and rebranding exercise which we are beginning to implement.”

Phil credits the support from Form as having helped Mocha to completely transform its business. Turnover and profits have both increased over the last year, from £486,000 to £664,000 and from £21,000 to £109,000, respectively, which he attributes directly to the support received.

“After 17 years of running a business, this is the first time we’ve had a cohesive brand which tells our story. Not only that, I feel that I understand the business and our strengths more than ever before, which makes it much easier for me when it comes to talking about and selling what we do. “
