Based at Sci-Tech Daresbury, Nucleotide Nutrition is a newly formed company bringing new and innovative food supplements to the market. Their product range aid and improve health naturally, including consumer supplements for immunity and stress, digestive health and a recently launched product for sports stress and recovery. Their most popular products are IntestAid IB, a natural approach for supporting long-term bowel health, and NuCell IM, a natural approach for supporting a healthy immune system.
The main aim of these products is to help the body’s natural biological processes to work as well as evolution has designed them to. But Nucleotide Nutrition was struggling with business strategy and a strong business plan.
Innovation specialist Mike Skinner was able to work with Rachel Hoyle of Nucleotide Nutrition to put together a detailed business plan and enabled the company to employ new business strategy techniques, which ultimately makes it more competitive in the market.
Mike ran various workshops while working with Nucleotide Nutrition and advised on a myriad of different subjects like investment, grant funding, day-to-day running of the business and marketing. Together, they came to the conclusion that the business would benefit from well-established international partners and distributors within the health and food supplement sectors, which would help it to introduce its products to different markets.
After coming to this conclusion, Mike introduced Rachel to colleague Ana Carbonell and the Enterprise Europe Network. After carrying out some research about potential markets, Ana put together a business review for the company identified Ireland as one of the markets into which to introduce its products.
The visit to Ireland of Innovate UK’s fully funded Global Business Accelerator Program – Healthy and Sustainable Food, Nutrition and Substitutes – offered a great opportunity for the company to become more knowledgeable about the market and how to commercialise its products and find new business partners.
All of the health food chains Nucleotide Nutrition talked during the trip were interested in stocking Nutri-tide NT, one of its bestselling products, and the presentation given to the buyers went so well that wholesalers Independent Irish Health Foods, decided to become one of their main distributors in Ireland.
Since working under the Innovate2Succeed programme Nucleotide Nutrition has seen its turnover double and is now trading not only in the UK, but also in Ireland, Poland, Mexico, Australia, with Jordan just awaiting a registration.
Nucleotide Nutrition is now continuing to work with the Enterprise Europe Network with the aim to expand to new global markets in EU and beyond. Most recent work focused on the Jordan market where Nucleotide Nutrition is negotiating a new distribution contract with a Jordanian company. Nucleotide Nutrition is now getting advice in areas like international law, covering legalisation and notarisation of documents in the Jordanian market.
