Baronsgate beds benefits from Business Growth Programme support

Baronsgate is a beds and mattresses manufacturer based in Wavertree. Set up in 2014, the company serves both the trade and consumer markets. Earlier in the year, owner Rufat Yehia was browsing the Liverpool City Council website looking for new premises for his growing business. He found details of Liverpool Vision, the city’s economic development company, and contacted them through their online registration form.

Liverpool Vision are the Local Growth Hub broker for the Liverpool area and provide a signposting service to direct businesses to support available. Rufat received a follow-up phone call regarding his premises enquiry and through a light-touch diagnostic process, Liverpool Vision identified several additional areas where business support could be provided to help Baronsgate grow. A face to face meeting with Liverpool Vision followed to discuss this further and introduce Rufat to the different business support programmes available.

Through the Local Growth Hub, Baronsgate was brokered into support from the ERDF Business Growth Programme. Delivered by Liverpool Vision, as part of a consortium of local authorities and chambers of commerce across Liverpool City Region, this programme is designed to build confidence and capacity in local SMEs by offering fully funded direct advice, guidance and information to provide a clear route to growth and sustainability. Rufat received a comprehensive business diagnostic followed by an action plan and specialist support in the area of strategic business planning.

The diagnostic process had also revealed a support requirement in the area of Sales and Marketing which Liverpool Vision, through their Growth Hub broker role, worked with Rufat to address by raising his awareness of the commercial support available. Rufat selected local agency Digital Config to help work on an online sales strategy, create a website and provide social media support. “They’ve given me a really good price and I’m able to pay monthly to help with cashflow,” explains Rufat.

The Local Growth Hub at Liverpool Vision have also introduced Rufat to Phil Anders, manufacturing advisor for the Manufacturing Growth Fund which provides support and a 30% grant to help SME manufacturers. Liverpool Vision are also offering ongoing assistance with Rufat’s premises search.

“The support is going to have a great impact in the near future,” says Rufat. “I’d definitely consider seeking more Growth Hub support in the future.”
