Want to help Liverpool City Region innovation? The LEP is recruiting new board members
The Liverpool City Region LEP are seeking new Board members to help realise out ambition to accelerate innovation across the City Region.
This is a particularly exciting time in terms of driving forward the Liverpool City Region’s Innovation agenda. Recent and ongoing investment in science and innovation infrastructure in the City Region now tops £2bn and a ground breaking LCR+ Science and Innovation Audit, commissioned by government, is about to be published. Newly elected Metro Mayor, Steve Rotheram, has personally taken on Combined Authority portfolio responsibility for innovation and Government has launched a £1bn Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund with a clear emphasis on Innovation.
Against this backdrop, the Innovation Board is the Liverpool City Region’s “go-to” innovation-related strategic advisory, prioritisation and advocacy body. It is an integral part of the LCR governance architecture, and interlinks closely with the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Strategic Board and Growth Sector Boards, Combined Authority, and other relevant bodies at local, Northern Powerhouse, and national levels, including Innovate UK. Its overall purpose is to drive the commercialisation of knowledge and ideas, increase productivity, maximise investment, enhance skills, attract talent, and accelerate growth across all sectors of the LCR economy.
We are now seeking new Board members, ideally from the private sector, to help press home our comparative advantages and realise our ambition to accelerate the commercialisation of innovation across the City Region. Key attributes beyond relevant experience include proven leadership capability, strong professional networks, “media-friendly”/excellent communication skills, awareness of the major issues and opportunities at City Region, North of England, UK, and international levels, plus, above all, passion, vision and commitment to harnessing innovation to drive economic growth.
The Board meets four times a year and, reflecting its private sector focus, the Chair is Dr Jon. Hague, Vice President Operations & Open Innovation, Unilever Global R&D. Board positions are not remunerated, but do provide a range of “soft” benefits – please see the Terms of Reference, 1-page overview and innovation ecosystem diagram.
For an informal discussion, contact John Whaling, innovation & Strategic Investment Lead via 0151 237 3918. To apply, please send to email@example.com: (a) an up-to-date CV; (b) a covering letter detailing your suitability in line with the Board Terms of Reference, attributes highlighted above, and other information provided. The closing date for applications is 10am on Monday 17 July.
